The Australian expat who was widely praised online after photographed cleaning up a Pattaya beach said he had been doing it out of his love for Thailand.
The uplifting story of an awesome Aussie who was seen picking up trash around Amat beach last week has made the man, Mark Blackburn, 41, become the favorite expat of Pattaya locals.
Mark, who has been cleaning up beaches in Pattaya over weekends for the last six months, said he loved Thailand’s beautiful nature and wanted to do something to benefit the country.
“I never thought someone would take photos of me and post them online, but it’s a good thing because the story can help raise awareness to locals and tourists,” Mark said, in a translation by state media.
Mark, who works as a secretary of an automotive brake manufacturer, said he would spend a few hours each weekend picking up garbage around his condo on Amat beach. Sometimes he would take a ferry to Koh Lan to clean up the island’s beaches as well.
