Nigerian scammer poses as hot Euro lover, cons Thai women out of B1 million

Police announced yesterday they arrested one of the two Nigerian men from a romance scam gang who posed as European lovers and deceived Thai women for their money online.

Mgbenka Ogochukwu, 35, was caught at his condominium on Lat Krabang Wednesday after police were tipped off on his scams. Police said Mgbenka was flirting with several Thai women as “Luis Mark” on the Line application, using photos of hot European men.

The man would tell the victims he was moving to Thailand with a bunch of cash, but was detained at the airport immigration and needed about THB100,000 – THB150,000 to pay for his fine, police said.

Three of the 20 women he was speaking with transferred cash to his bank account. Mgbenka also posed as an English woman called “Gianna Addison” and conned a Thai man out of THB150,000.

Mgbenka confessed to police he worked with another Nigerian friend and a Thai woman, who are still on the run. The gang tended to pick older women as they have money and it would not take long for them to transfer cash to the gang’s account, police said.

They have conned countless victims out of about THB1 million in the last year, police said, MCOT and The Nation reported.

Meanwhile, police are still looking for “David Cameron” among other online lovers who scammed Thai women out of THB29 million.
