Batman busted: Dark Knight detained by Bangkok traffic police

He’s the hero Bangkok deserves – but not the one its traffic police needs right now.

Bangkok’s Batman has denied being arrested in the capital after scandalous photos of the Dark Knight at a traffic police booth went viral online over the weekend.

The pics of Bangkok traffic police pulling over the Caped Crusader in his awesome Batmobile led many to believe the superhero had gone rogue and broken traffic rules.

However the 29-year-old Batman, who disguises himself by day as toy shop owner Kampanat Chankaew at Khlong Thom market, said it was a “misunderstanding”. He claims he was only stopped for questioning at the security booth on Friday while driving across the Memorial Bridge, and that police even asked him for selfies.

The Dark Knight said he was on his way to Ratchadamnoen Road to distribute water to the cyclists at the Bike for Dad event, according to state media.

Meanwhile, Pol. Somchai Jaisuk of Buppharam police department confirmed that they did not charge Batman for any crime and only stopped him for a chat because… well, he’s Batman.

Kampanat – sorry, Batman – said he hangs out with around six or seven other superheroes including Spiderman, Superman and Captain America. The toy seller transforms into Batman at night and rides his Batbike or Batmobile on the mean streets of Bangkok once a week to help fellow citizens feel safe.

Besides fighting crime, the superhero squad do charity work at the Rajvithi Home for orphaned girls.

Although Kampanat works hard to help society, his love life has not fared so well: his girlfriend of 10 years recently broke up with him because of his Batman exploits. Nevertheless the superhero stays positive and said he enjoys making people smile, Khaosod reported.
