Police today arrested a 67-year-old American national in Chiang Mai on a charge of possessing child pornography.
The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) together with the US Embassy arrested James Newman at his home in Mae Tang district after they were tipped off that the suspect allegedly molested young boys and shared nude photos of them on Facebook.
According to police, James used to be an English teacher and often invited young boys in his neighborhood to play at his house.
Authorities found photos of the victims on his computers. Police will call the children for questioning for further prosecution charges.
James could face up to five years in prison and a fine of THB100,000 for possession of child pornography, Daily News and Manager reported.
Last week, an Australian teacher was arrested in Ubon Ratchathani after authorities discovered he had been convicted of the rape and molestation of at least three boys in Indonesia, one as young as eight years old.
