The Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok said Thailand has announced its first HeForShe Ambassadors.
HeForShe is a UN Women campaign established to promote gender equality, with key representatives including Emma Watson and Wolf Blitzer. It aims to encourage men and boys to stand up for and to achieve women’s rights by combating the challenges and inequalities faced by women and girls.
Prom Sirisant, senior vice-president of Strategy at Asia Plus Group Holdings and Pita Limjaroenrat, CEO of Thai Agri Foods, were announced as the new ambassadors, with both voicing their staunch support for gender equality.
One of their targets is to collect 10,000 signatures from Thai men to support women’s rights by March 2016.
Currently, less than 1,000 Thai men have joined the campaign on the HeForShe website.
Prom, who believes in the strength of women, said: “The strengths and capabilities of women as human resources tend to be overlooked where gender disparities persist. If gender gaps are narrowed and both men and women enjoy equal opportunities, I think Thailand will become more prosperous.”
Together with the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok and UN Women, the ambassadors aim to improve gender equality in Thailand.
