Anonymous shuts down 297 Thai court websites

Hacker group Anonymous has attacked and taken down hundreds of Thai court websites in retaliation for the Koh Tao murder verdict.

The group has threatened to leak information about Thai judiciary members it claims are corrupt, Khaosod English reported.

Anonymous said it had taken down 297 websites since last night, including those of Thai Court of Justice and the Appeal Court, in protest against the conviction of two Myanmar migrant workers, found guilty last month of the rape and murder of Hannah Witheridge and of the murder of David Miller.

The investigation and verdict have been widely criticised, with many claiming the two men, Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, had been used as scapegoats by the Thai justice system.

“‪#‎Anonymous‬ is preparing a huge leak of all Thai officials involved in corruption in Thai Courts,” the hacktivist group wrote on their Facebook page.

“Anonymous has found the Thai courts to be GUILTY of unfair treatment of non Thai nationals, using scapegoats and using foreign prisoners as political pawns and for political gain. You have been found guilty by Anonymous and justice will prevail.”

The hack attack follows a Facebook post, since taken down, by Hannah Witheridge’s sister Laura, who slammed Thai authorities for a “bungled investigation” into the murders.

Anonymous also previously took credit for taking down several Thai police websites last week. Thai police said in response they would file a complaint against the hackers.
