Animal activists have demanded Kasetsart University investigate a skeleton of a cat displayed at its museum after a student posted on Facebook that it came from his neighbor’s cat which he stole and killed for a class assignment.
Facebook page A Call for Animal Rights requested instructors from the Faculty of Science’s Museum Collection to investigate the disturbing Facebook activities of the entomology student who posted a photo of him washing a cat’s corpse, joking with his friends about how he had killed it.
“Looks good, right? But when I did it, it wasn’t that pleasant,” the caption said.
The student, who went by the Facebook user name “MarkyMike,” also posted a photo of the cat’s skeleton which is displayed at Kasetsart University’s Zoological Museum, claiming he had killed it two years ago when he took the class.
“When I did it back then, people said I was barbaric, but two years later after I turned in my project, the skeleton is now displayed at the museum,” the caption wrote.
“Thanks, the little cat from my neighbor. Until today, she still can’t find her cat. I feel a bit guilty.”
In the comment section under the photo, MarkyMike told his friends how he killed the cat.
“It’s okay. I told her [my neighbor] that the cat was in heat and it wouldn’t come back,” he responded to his friends. “Hahaha. I gave it an injection.”
The story has enraged animal activists as screenshots of the Facebook posts circulated on the social network.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mesayamart Kongsaema, professor of the Zoological Department, posted on Facebook that the university did not know that the student in question killed the cat.
“The teachers did not know he did that to the animal, and our department does not have that kind of policy. We always say the animals used in experiments are our teachers. We must respect them,” she wrote.
According to his Facebook page, MarkyMike studies Entomology at the Faculty of Agriculture, which will call him for questioning today, according to Thairath.
