Veg off: Officials recall Aussie prepacked veggies after Salmonella outbreak

The Food and Drugs department said it is recalling prepacked vegetables imported from an Australian company after they were linked to a salmonella outbreak in its Victoria state.

Officials announced today Thailand had imported a total of nine kilograms of vegetables from Tripod Farmers, the company which had to recall prepacked veggies across Australia after over 62 people were infected with Salmonella, a bacteria that causes food poisoning.

The Food and Drugs department said it had contacted Thai importers to recall the vegetables, which have already been distributed to supermarkets.

The affected products include kale, baby spinach, baby cos, and salad mix.

Tripod Farmers, a family business which has been operating since 1989, recalled 25 products this week from four different brands: Wash N Toss, Woolworths, Coles Australian, and Super Salads Supamix.

The Australian health authorities are inspecting its farming and processing operations as an investigation gets underway, according to The Age.
