A Nok Air plane narrowly avoided hitting a hospital under construction yesterday afternoon when it landed at Mae Sot airport amid heavy smog.
The plane, flying in from Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport, had released its landing gear and was about to descend when the pilot noticed the plane had missed the runway by about 100 metres and was heading in the direction of the hospital, Thai PBS reported.
The quick-thinking pilot managed to pull up to avoid hitting the building, panicking passengers on board.
The plane then circled for 15 minutes before finding the runway and landing safely.
A villager said he saw the plane’s rocky landing, noting that smog had obscured the visibility of the runway.
