Monk puts soldier in headlock during Buddhist rally (VIDEO)

Dozens of monks in Bangkok were filmed this afternoon forcefully breaking through a military line to enter the Buddha Monthon park in Nakhon Pathom, the compound of the National Office of Buddhism.

In a chaotic episode that lasted about 15 minutes, the troops failed to prevent the monks and their followers from breaking into the park, where thousands of supporters are expected to gather today to take action against alleged attempts to overthrow the Supreme Sangha Council, the administrative body of Thai monks.

In the video, a monk is seen trying to move a soldier out of the way by putting him in a headlock.

The group is demanding that the National Office of Buddhism speed up the appointment process of the new supreme patriarch.

The demonstration claims to represent networks of Buddhist monks throughout the country, including the Buddhism Protection Centre of Thailand and the Association of Buddhism Scholars, Nation TV and Matichon reported.
