Nok Air sacks pilot, suspends two others over strike

Nok Air has fired a pilot and suspended two others over the pilot strike on Sunday which forced the airline to cancel nine flights.

Nok Air announced yesterday it had decided to immediately terminate the employment of Sanit Kongpetch, a pilot and manager of the pilot’s standard division, without any financial compensation over the protest of a group of pilots on Sunday which resulted in 1,000 passengers being stranded at Don Mueang Airport.

The airline also suspended two other pilots for one week until Feb. 23 and launched investigations into another seven for their involvement in the strike which has caused damage to their business, Thai PBS reported.

It was reported that about 10 pilots stopped working on Sunday in opposition to the airline’s increased auditing of aviation management, which was implemented to follow standards set by the European Aviation Safety Agency, according to Bangkok Post.
