Fraudster celeb anchor Sorayuth granted bail, back on air

Sorayuth Suthassanachinda, one of the most prominent news personalities in Thailand, was granted bail yesterday after being sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison for fraud.

The 49-year-old anchor was released when he paid THB2 million bail after he was sent to jail for cheating state-owned channel MCOT of over THB138 million in advertising revenue a decade ago.

Sorayuth, a financial employee at his Rai Som Company, together with a state employee at MCOT Plc, were found guilty yesterday of working together to conceal records of the extra advertising air time of Sorayuth’s news program “Kui Khui Khao” between 2005 to 2006.

The three were reportedly released on bail. They have been forbidden from leaving the country and must report back to the court every 30 days, Daily News reported.

Sorayuth was back reading news for the Channel 3 popular program “Morning News” this morning, referring to himself as a defendant.

Sorayuth commented that he respected the court’s verdict but would use his rights in the justice system to appeal the case.
