Bangkok pays THB1.8 million compensation to Erawan bombing victims

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has paid over THB1.8 million in compensation to the victims of last August’s Erawan shrine bombing.

Assistance funds were given to 66 people, including 38 Thais and 28 foreigners from Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan and Indonesia, who were injured or were related to those killed in the bombing incident on Aug. 17.

The bombing killed 20 people and wounded 120 more.

Two Chinese ethnic Uighur men, Adem Karadag and Yusufu Mieraili, have been charged over the attack and are facing trial for murder.

Although they previously confessed to being involved in the attack, they have since denied all charges against them in court.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which Thai authorities have said was in retaliation for a crackdown on human smuggling gangs.
