Global Social Ventures Competition to Host First Time in Bangkok

Presented by

If your dream is to make the world a better place or if you have a brilliant idea but don’t know where to start, there’s an event coming up that will inspire you to take that first step.

The IMBA Program of Thammasat University in partnership with UC Berkeley, is bringing the Global Social Venture Competition, one of the world’s best competitions for social entrepreneurs, to Bangkok for the first time ever.

The Global Social Ventures Competition (GSVC) was founded by a group of MBA students at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business in 1999. It’s among the oldest competitions for social ventures around the world. GSVC has given opportunities to social changemakers and helped launch over 200 successful social business ventures in various projects from public health services, education, the environment, renewable energy and technology.

This year, over 500 teams submitted their ideas and business models that aim to tackle social challenges and maximize the impact to society at large. The winner will be chosen from 17 global finalists during the Global Final Round on April 1-2, 2016 right here in Bangkok.

One highlight of the event is an exclusive symposium of world-class thought leaders with backgrounds in design, creativity and social impact. These leaders are in Bangkok to inspire the new generation of social entrepreneurs with their one-of-a-kind stories and ideas under the theme “Think Big, Act Small”.

Prolific key speakers include Harry West, CEO of Frog Design, a global design and innovation firm that focuses on delivering better experiences through systems of brand, product and service, Chid Liberty, CEO and co-founder of Liberty & Justice, Africa’s first fair trade certified apparel manufacturer providing opportunities to internally displaced women and Chatchai Aphibanpoonpon, Founder of Klongdinsor, a Bangkok-based social enterprise which provides educational resources for visually-impaired children, just to name a few.
