History made: Thailand moves to final round of 2018 World Cup qualifying

Thailand’s War Elephants drew 2-2 with Iraq in Tehran last night and moved into the final stage of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, one of the country’s greatest achievements in Thai football history.

A famous joke by Thai comedian Udom Taepanich stated, “By the time Thailand makes it to World Cup, the rest of the world will have progressed to the Universe Cup,” and the Thai football team proved that wrong last night.

Thailand’ War Elephants took the lead in the first half, but Iraq struck back in the second half, drawing the match at 2-2, which meant Thailand topped Group F.

Thailand got to celebrate one of its greatest achievements as the country has not moved this far in the World Cup since the 2002 finals.

At the same time, this also means Thailand secured a place in the 2019 Asian Cup, ESPN FC reported.
