Chiang Mai baby elephant attacks tourists with love and snuggles (VIDEO)

This Chiang Mai baby elephant has a habit of tumbling into helpless tourists and demanding to be snuggled.

A series of cuddling videos featuring little elephant “Nampuu” (or “Fountain”) were posted on Instagram by happy visitors who encountered the playful baby boy in the past month.

Nampuu lives at Patara Elephant Farm in Chiang Mai and is the star attraction of the “Elephant Owner for a Day” package tour designed to let people learn how to take care of elephants. On the tour, they learn about elephant temperament, health, bathing and how to communicate with the pachyderms.

The farm shared on their Facebook page that Nampuu is always supervised by his mother, Ploy, during his playtime with people. From time to time, Ploy makes a rumbling sound to call Nampuu back to her for breastfeeding.

Despite being adorably clumsy and cute, the farm didn’t expect Nampuu to be their star. He struggled when he was born because he was much tinier than normal newborn elephants.

Nampuu only weighed 67 kilograms when he was delivered while most newborns are around 100 kilograms. The farm had to design a step for Nampuu so he could reach his tall mother and get breastfed.
