Three women pass first test to become air force pilots

Three women have passed the first stage of the recruitment process — a writing test — as they attempt to become the first female pilots for the Royal Thai Air Force.

The organization started recruiting women for the first time in its history last week.

Out of the eight female candidates, Suwattana Chanthalert, Sirithorn Lawansatien and Chonnisa Supawan, were the only ones who passed the writing test on Wednesday and will now move on to a series of health and psychological inspections, and then an interview and fitness test.

The organization originally hoped to recruit five female pilots this year.

The final test results will be announced in mid-May.

Successful applicants will go through a one-year training course before starting work.

Air force chief Tritos Sonchaeng said that the selected female pilots will receive the same opportunities to advance in their career as men, according to Prachachart.
