Fire destroys THB200 million wooden Thai house in Pattaya

A fire destroyed a luxury wooden house in Pattaya today that was nearly finished after 10 years of construction.

The wooden house, Baan Phaya Mai, which was due to open as a new tourist attraction later this year, caught on fire around 10am today.

It took approximately an hour for the fire service to control the flames as parts of the building collapsed.

A spark from an electronic short circuit was believed to have caused the fire. No injuries were reported.

The house is owned by Khunthong U-ngern, businessman and owner of the Poipet fresh market in Pattaya.

The property spanned over 2,400 sqm. and was built from a combination of teak, padauk and takian woods.

The owner has yet to speak to the press, Sanook reported.
