Police arrest two brothers after Belgian man stabbed on Koh Lipe

Two brothers have been arrested and charged for the premeditated attempted murder of a Belgian dive instructor on Koh Lipe early Sunday morning.

Police have said they will oppose bail for Sarawut Nardma, 28, and his brother Adirek, 31, and they will seek a court permission to extend their detention today.

The men, who are local boat drivers, are being held at Muang Satun police station.

The brothers were accused of stabbing Peter Venden Abili, 28, in the early hours of Sunday after the Belgian tried to stop Sarawut from arguing with his wife behind the Castaway Resort on the east of the island.

Adirek joined the argument after his brother returned home to get a 12-inch knife. Both men then reportedly went looking for Peter.

Sarawat allegedly stabbed the Belgian man twice in the stomach before the brothers fled the scene.

Sarawut confessed to the crime while his elder brother denied the charge, reported Bangkok Post.

The Belgian man is being treated at Bangkok Hospital Hat Yai in Songkhla province and is out of danger.
