Not his best selfie: Japanese expat hit by train while taking selfie on tracks

A Japanese expat was hit by a train in Kanchanaburi Saturday morning while he was taking a selfie on the tracks over the River Kwai Bridge.

Despite the train blowing its whistle several times, the man, identified as Haruhisa Saito, 52, was apparently too caught up in his own photo-snapping to hear the whistle and was hit on the bridge by the Thon Buri-Nam Tok train No 257, according to Bangkok Post.

Saito was thrown from the bridge by the impact of the train and landed five meters below. Approximately 1,000 Thai and foreign tourists witnessed the accident, many screaming as it happened.

The Japanese businessman was seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital where he is being treated for broken ribs and head injuries.

Local police said that Saito, president of Chon Buri’s Silvec Co., was on vacation with his employees for the long weekend.

We bet his employees are glad he didn’t ask them to jump in for a company photo on the tracks.
