Phra Arthit Road: The old-town hangout now bright red (PHOTO ESSAY)

Located next to popular backpacker hangout Khao San Road, Phra Arthit Road boasts a long row of narrow old shophouses, restaurants that have been open for decades, and new hip bars where college students come to hang out after class.

Following the recent repainting of nearby Ta Tian-Ta Chang, Phra Arthit has also been repainted. The shophouses facing the Phra Sumen Fort are proudly sporting bright red facades that are sure to catch the eye of everyone who passes by.

Coconuts photographer Pai Chanikarn spent a day on Phra Arthit Road and took some snapshots of the revamped area. We didn’t think it was possible, but one of our favorite streets has become even more charming.
