24-hour Bangkok City Library to open in old town

Good news for all the bookworms who drop thousands of baht every time they step into Asia Books. Bangkok is preparing to launch a new kind of city library, a reading space that will stay open 24 hours a day and have ridiculously cheap membership costs.

And, just to make it perfect, they’ll have coffee.

Located near Kok Wua Intersection on Rachadamnoen Road, the Bangkok City Library will provide both Thai and foreign books as well as a selection for readers with disabilities, in an attempt to encourage reading in the city.

The library is carefully designed to be easy to use. The library will boast an exhibition area, cafe, and sections for books in categories such as travel, business, literature, history, rare books, reference books and more.

The library is expected to open to the public by the end of this year. Entry is free, but if you’d like to borrow books, an annual membership costs THB25 for adult and THB5-15 for children.
