Beggar found dead at temple had THB1.5 million in bank

People who tend to look on the bright side of life might say that beggars have their freedom and the time to watch the world go by but one beggar, who passed away yesterday in Samut Sakorn, also had THB 1.5million in the bank.

Pun Anoma, 85, was found dead at Wat Wat Krok Krak temple, where he used to sleep each night and beg each day.

Authorities are attempting to locate Pun’s relatives to find someone they can give the money to.  Apparently, the man lost contact with his family years ago and his brother died in 2014, authorities learned from Pun’s sister-in-law, Pen Tuntamcheua, 64, according to Chiang Mai CityNews.

Pen said Pun is a younger brother of her husband, who passed away two years ago. She last met Pun 30 years ago when he stayed at her house for one month.

Pun said he would find work in Phuket and left. After that he lost in touch with her family, who later moved to Chiang Mai.

Pen said she didn’t want to come forward at first when she learned about Pun’s death in the media for fear that people will misunderstand that she wants his money, but she said that she actually wants to make merit for him because he has no other relatives.

Pen said she is happy to let her son and daughter undergo a DNA test to prove they are Pun’s niece and nephew, according to Sanook.

Chiang Mai Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office will control the funds until they can find Pun’s true relatives.
