This is literally the scariest road in Thailand (VIDEO)

A video of what’s widely proclaimed as “Thailand’s scariest road” has been circulating on social media recently, but not for the reason you would expect.

This is not one of the cases like Japan’s extremely steep bridge, which went viral last year because it could be hazardous to drive on. The Thai road, found upon entering Krapook Hill in Petchburi province, has grabbed attention from Thai netizens lately because it is scary in a horror-movie sort of way.

Instead of lights, the two sides of the road are decorated with dozens of spirit houses, which are homes of… well, dozens of spirits.

Theerapong Iamsa-ard, director of a Phetchaburi’s provincial administration, said yesterday that the spirit road was the work of a retired police officer who decided to put spirit houses on the road to make it look pretty.

We might have a slightly different idea of what’s pretty than that cop.

The officer, who was not identified, recycled old spirit houses and put them along the roadside as decorations, Theerapong told Daily News.

Some internet users say the spirit houses might be the solution we’ve needed all along to slow down Thai drivers.

Meanwhile in Bangkok, we have the “Hundred-death Curve” on Ratchada Road. Locals commonly honk when going through the curve in the road to ask the permission from the people who died there for safe passage.

Thais also place flowers and zebra sculptures at the curve to show respect. Read a full story on the Hundred-Death Curve here.
