Many foreigners speak Thai, but it’s a tiny percentage that can actually sound like locals. So, it’s no surprise that this guy, talking in perfect Southern Thai accent, has become the subject of a viral video today.
The minute-long video, of a foreigner carrying on a casual conversation in Thai, has impressed even true Southerners as the video went viral in a Facebook community of locals from Nakhon Si Thammarat today.
In the clip, the guy says that his name is Joe and he lives in Phatthalung province. Then, he discusses the Southern dishes he likes, such as fish curry and rice noodles.
Just so you know, even Bangkok-born Thais find it difficult to imitate or understand Southern accents and people from the South often use words that city folks have never heard.
“I’ve been living in the South for 10 years, and I can’t even talk like this!” a comment said.
For example, instead calling himself “Pi” or brother, Joe calls himself “Pi Bao,” the Southern word.
