A motorcycle racer, who was arrested yesterday for firing 11 shots at a truck loaded with soybeans, told police that he did it out of anger because the truck almost hit him when he changed lanes on the road.
The racer, Voraphop Deedpin, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of an illegal weapon and attempted murder in Ayutthaya.
The police also impounded his motorcycle, which has no licence plate, and a 9mm pistol he had on him along with two pistol magazines.
The shooting, which occurred on July 30 at 3am, happened on a highway in the district of Bang Pahan.
The truck driver, Suthit Jinpala, told police he was forced to drive in the middle of the road because the left lane of the road was taken over by a large group of street racers who gathered together, reported Bangkok Post.
Voraphop, who admitted to being part of this group, said that the racers were reportedly almost hit by the truck when the driver tried to change lanes from the left.
In anger, Voraphop chased after the truck and fired 11 shots at it. In the truck was Suthit, his wife, and their seven-year-old daughter.
They were reported to be unharmed by the spray of bullets.
According to Voraphop, the pistol was his safety measure due to his unfamiliarity with the other racing group members. He also said that the motorcycle he took to the gathering was one he had been earlier hired to modify.
During the crime reenactment on Thursday, Voraphop apologized to Suthit for his action.
