2 bomb blasts hit Patong tourist area of Phuket

Two bombs exploded in the Patong area of Phuket this morning at about 8:45am. The first went off near the police box on Bangla Road and the second detonated at Loma Park. A third bomb was found outside of the Baan Thai Hotel before it could explode.

Police and a bomb disposal team are at the scene now and the area is sealed off from the public.

It’s been reported that one person was injured in the explosions.

Chief of the Phuket Provincial Police Maj. Gen. Teerapol Thipjareu said, “If anyone sees anything suspicious please inform police immediately.”

People are advised to keep away from the area.

Since last night, bombs have also rocked the southern provinces of Surat Thani, Hua Hin and Trang with reports that three people have been killed and many more injured.

The reasons for the blasts and the people responsible are not yet known.
