Kind Thai man gives ride to hitchhiking Russians even though they can’t communicate

Netizens couldn’t stop commenting on a Facebook post about a kind Thai man who took two Russian travelers from Udon Thani to Khon Kaen province when he found them hitchhiking on the street.

The foreign couple had a big bag by their feet and were standing by a very hot roadside. They had a sign in Thai announcing their destination of Khon Kaen and were just hoping that someone would pick them up, reported Daily News.

Once Pheratheap Monthawatchrakul, the kind driver, did pick them up, the issue was that the communication as they both spoke only a little bit of English.

However, Pheratheap went out of his way to communicate with the foreigners, using a mixture of Google translate, maps on his phone and sign language. The travelers were able to communicate exactly where they were trying to go.

“These foreigners stood in the sun, hitchhiking. They were Russians and did not speak much of English. I couldn’t speak English fluently myself, so we used sign language and I gave them a ride to Central Khon Kaen shopping mall,” said Pheratheap.

“Although we could not communicate, my mind communicated to them that ‘I’m happy to help.’ How do you say that in Russian? So next time when I see them, I’ll be able to say that to them,” he added.

The couple reached their destination safely and posed for pictures with the driver and their sign using one more sign language gesture — a thumbs-up sign.

Pheratheap told the Daily News that he was happy to help.
