A video of two bouncers beating a British backpacker who laid defenseless on the ground of Khao San Road went viral this week as a female vendor nearby pleads with them to stop.
In the video circulated in local media yesterday, two Thai men can be seen kicking a the tourist who is already down on the ground, while a woman’s voice is heard in the video, begging them to stop saying, “he’s already not fighting back.” Two other foreigners are seen trying to stop the bouncers and come to the man’s aid.
According to Pol. Lt. Pathiparn Yuenthon of the Chana Songkram police department, the fight broke out around 1am on Wednesday morning. There were four British backpackers, with one of them being very drunk. The group tried to get into an unidentified pub that the bouncers were guarding but were denied entrance. Then their verbal argument led into a fight.
In the footage, one of the bouncers shouted after letting the British backpacker go that “he started it.”
The person who posted the video, who prefers to remain anonymous for his own safety, explained in an interview with Morning News that he was already taking a video of Khao San road when he caught the fight on tape.
Before the backpackers reached the bar where the fight happened, they were being disrespectful and even picking fights with Thai locals nearby as well. He gave no further comment on the subject and already deleted the clip.
Regardless of who started the fight, the two bouncers were caught and confessed that they did physically harm the tourist after denying them entrance. The tourist who was beaten sustained physical injuries. The bouncers were charged with physical assault.
