A homeless man who had been sleeping on the streets and in Huai Kwang MRT station for over a year returned a lost wallet to its owner simply because “It’s not his,” according to the girlfriend of the wallet’s owner.
In a story that restored many people’s faith in humanity this week, the wallet’s owner, Nitty Pongkriangyos, rewarded the honest homeless man with a job and a new home. Coconuts reached out to the couple for an update on the no-longer-homeless man.
Nitty, who owns a steel factory on Rama II Road, said he decided to hire the honest homeless man, Woralop after his kind act of returning the wallet.
“Don’t be embarrassed to do good, and once in awhile, try to be the one who gives. I feel so much happier now that I have helped that man, even more so than when I got my wallet back,” Nitty told Coconuts.
Woralop, 45, whose last name is not known, started working at the factory today as a worker who packs the steel before transportation. Woralop also gets to stay in the employee’s accommodation.
Tarika, Nitty’s girlfriend, added that Woralop was originally from Phuket and had been getting food from a street stall that fed him for free. She said Woralop is such a good example that being kind really does pay off.
“When you’re kind to another, another is kind to you. Anyone can do good,” Tarika wrote on Facebook.
Some people commented that this story should be a shining example of what “Thainess” is, and we only hope it encourages others to do good deeds too.
