Thinking of taking a vacation to Thailand or having friends or family come to visit? Pack some extra baht in your wallet, Visas on Arrival (VoA) are about to double in price for visitors from certain countries — from THB1,000 to THB2,000 for a 15-day stay in the country.
Starting September 27, visitors from 18 countries and one economic zone will have to pay THB2,000 instead of the current THB1,000 to enter the country at any of Thailand’s 42 designated immigration checkpoints, reported Thai PBS.
Tourists from the following countries will have to pay more for their visas: Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
No word on why this sudden increase is being introduced for certain visitors.
Visitors from the 41 countries that fall under the visa exemption rule will still not need a visa if their visit is shorter than 30 days. These include passport holders from the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia and others.
