Police chief gives Fight Club Thailand arrest warning

The city police chief has left a message to the fighters of the controversial Fight Club Thailand that they will immediately face arrest if they continue to organize an illegal fight for this Saturday.

After watching viral video clips, Pol. Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn asked that the group make these fights legal before staging anything else. This would mean they would have to apply for permission at the Thai Sports Council to hold fights under regulations laid out in the year 2000.

He asked that the people who have been involved report to Bangrak Police. The matches are believed to have taken place under an expressway between Hualamphong and Sam Sen.

“I’ve seen these fights and I don’t see it as boxing. I do want to support them, but they have to do it the right way, because safety is a priority.” Pol. Lt. Gen. Sanit said at the Metropolitan Police Bureau yesterday.

“I believe that everyone had good intentions, but what they’re doing now is illegal. I invite the people who were involved before to come to the police station at Bang Rak, or come see me. I will happily give them advice.”

Meanwhile, Dech Jaikla, director of the Boxing Council of Thailand, put in his two cents on the subject after he watched the video clips, saying that what they were doing is not considered boxing and were not paying the proper respect to the art of Thai boxing, reported Daily News.
