Massive fight breaks out after football game at SCG Stadium, 4 seriously injured

Tensions ran high last night when a fight broke out behind the SCG Stadium over in Muangthong between the fans of two popular Thai football teams — Muangthong United F.C. and Port F.C.

With so many injured, the Nonthaburi police, military forces, the stadium’s guards, together with staff volunteers of the Por Tek Tung foundation stepped in to stop the fight and helped the injured.

The fight broke out at between 10:30pm around the back of the stadium, near the intersection in front of the Muangthong tollway. The game ended at 9pm, with the game ending with a tie of 1:1.

As Port FC soccer fans started stumbling out of the stadium, fans from both teams were already hurling comments at one another. At some point, Port F.C. soccer fans started jumping out of their cars, ready for a rumble. Bottles were broken to be used as weapons, and there were some people holding wooden sticks.

Many were injured, but there were 4 who were seriously injured in the fight.

According to Sanook, it took 300 policemen, 100 stadium guardsmen, 100 volunteers from the Por-Tek-Tung foundation, 50 soldiers, 20 hospital vans, and 3 fire trucks to bring the situation under control.

It is still unknown who started the fight, but police are determined to find out. They have already rounded up fans who were at the fight to interrogate at the Pak Kret police station, while waiting to interrogate the injured after they’re in a better condition.

Muangthong United F.C.’s player Chanathip Songrasin (Messi J) responded to the fight on Facebook: “I don’t understand why they would fight each other. Isn’t football supposed to make you happy? I am very disappointed.”
