Officials whose job is to fix traffic issues were given one month to show progress in easing traffic congestion in Bangkok.
This year, Bangkok came in second as the city with the worst traffic congestion in the world after Mexico City, but Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has had enough it seems, so he chaired a meeting with other agencies concerned about Thailand’s traffic problem.
The partner organizations included City Hall, Transport Ministry, Land Transport Department, Highways Department, Rural Highways Department, Harbor Department, Public Works Department, and the Army.
They plan on working to solve traffic problems on the city’s 21 main roads and have agreed to address the traffic problem in 3 stages: immediate stage, medium stage, and long-term stage.
According to Prawit, the Metropolitan Police Bureau has already started making some progress in some areas with traffic problems. For example, he said that journeys that used to take an hour should only be taking 40 minutes now, reported Thai PBS.

The issue of motorists who refuse to pay traffic tickets has also been discussed. Prawit said that a bill would be drafted to impose fines on those who refuse to pay their traffic tickets.
So, a fine for someone who has already established that they aren’t going to pay their fine? Good luck with that.
