Brit expat and former monk sentenced for child porn, sex abuse and kidnapping

Fabian Frederick Blandford, 64, a British expat and former monk was sentenced to meager prison time of one year and three months for child pornography, holding children against their will and sexual abuse.

He was also fined THB83,000.

Yesterday, Fang Provincial Court, in Chiang Mai, found Blandford guilty of performing lewd acts on children under 15. For that, he was sentenced to just three months in jail and fined THB3,000.

Next, Blandford was convicted of breaking the 2008 Anti-Human Trafficking Act, which prohibits exchanging money for, or keeping a child against their will for exploitation.

For this offense, the Fang court gave a sentence of four years, but suspended it for three, and ordered a fine of THB80,000.

The court also ordered the man to check in at the probation office every four months and to complete 48 hours of community service.

So, yes, it sounds like this expat child sex offender will be allowed to stay in the country even after he completes his jail term.

Blandford was arrested in January. Police found a large collection of inappropriate pictures of children that he had taken at his house in Fang district, reported Bangkok Post.

U.S. Homeland Security played a role in the case when they found that child pornography had been sent from Blandford’s Chiang Mai IP address.

The child sex offender was an ordained monk in Chiang Mai several years ago but relinquished his robes to marry a Thai woman, with whom he has a child. He also taught English in Fang, which gave him a lot of access to local children.
