Traffic officer run over on the job, still hospitalized a month later (VIDEO)

A video of a traffic police officer getting run over by a car on Aug 19, in the middle of an intersection in the Dusit district, is making its rounds on the internet, collecting sympathy and outrage for the injured policeman from fellow netizens.

The video, which was posted on YouLike yesterday, shows a minor collision in the middle of the intersection between a black car and a taxi last month, causing two policemen who were located at the Dusit police station to come over.

As they were following procedure, by spray-painting where the two cars were and taking pictures to gather evidence, one of the cops, Natthakit Pankae, was run over by another car.

Natthakit suffered serious injury to his knee and was unable to move until an ambulance came to assist.

Many netizens shared sympathy for the policeman who got hurt on the job, chastising the driver who was responsible for his injury. Other netizens, however, noticed how the policeman might have been standing in the car’s blind spot, which made the driver unable to see him when he was moving through the intersection.

Nonetheless, the driver has been charged with negligent and dangerous driving.

Pol.Lt.Col. Kiethisak Thonglue, the deputy superintendent of Dusit Police, told reporters that Pol. Natthakit has been hospitalized for over a month.

Apart from the knee injury, he also suffered from a ruptured tendon and is still awaiting tendon repair surgery, reported Thairath.
