Again?! Phuket taxi driver hands in tourist couple’s lost THB300,000 cash

An airport limousine driver has been praised and rewarded after handing in a pouch containing over THB300,000 and a passport he found in his vehicle. The pouch was left behind by a tourist couple who used his service on Monday night.

Airport limousine driver, Kris “Komor” Niyompong, 53 arrived at Karon Police Station at midnight last night to hand in a pouch that he found inside his vehicle left by a tourist couple he picked up from Phuket International Airport earlier that evening at 9pm.

Upon arrival at Karon Police Station, Karon police officers and the tourist couple were waiting for him, after having called him to check for the lost money. Upon handing over the pouch containing the money, the woman it belonged to broke into tears, thanked Mr Kris for his honesty and gave him B2000 as a reward.

Kris told police he picked up the couple from the airport at around 9pm and took them to the Best Western hotel in Karon. While driving home through the Thalang area, a tourist police officer contacted him and asked him to check for a pouch that the couple left on the back seat. Kris said he stopped to checked his vehicle, discovered the pouch on the floor and notified police.

“I have been working for Phuket Mai Khao Sakoo Co as a taxi driver servicing the Phuket airport for more than six years, and have seen tourists leave wallets in my vehicle many times, but not usually with this much money,” said Kris.

“I always return all items left inside my vehicle to tourists. I would never take them because my work is in the service industry and I that’s what I get paid to do. If I did that it would destroy customer’s trust in our service and eventually we will lose our customer,” he added.

The story of the honest taxi driver went viral among Phuket reporters after local writer Jamorn Sompong posted a picture of the taxi driver handing over the pouch to the couple at the police station on Facebook, with a message that said “good deeds must be praised.
