Dead, premature infant born to 15-year-old mother vanishes from Samut Prakarn hospital

An investigation has been opened regarding the mysterious vanishing of the body of a female baby from the morgue of a hospital in Samut Prakarn.

The teen mother, who is only 15 years old, reported that her baby’s body was discovered missing early on Tuesday at Samut Prakarn Hospital when she went to collect the body for burial, reported Bangkok Post.

The young woman, who was not identified, gave birth prematurely at home in Muang district on Oct. 5 after a six-month pregnancy. The baby had health issues related to being born prematurely and was taken to Samut Prakan Hospital. The infant died from heart failure on Oct. 7.

The mother requested that the healthcare facility hold the baby’s body until they could have a funeral. She went to the hospital each day to visit the deceased baby. The baby’s body was still there on Monday evening but was missing by Tuesday morning, the day the body was to be taken by the family.

The girl and her family asked about the baby’s whereabouts but no reasonable explanation was provided, even by the hospital’s director.

The family filed a case at Muang police station and fear that the child was stolen to be used in occult ceremonies as fetuses are believed to be valuable in black magic proceedings in Thailand.

Samut Prakan Hospital director Samphan Komrit confirmed yesterday that the baby’s body was missing and they would investigate further.

He said that he was very sorry to the family for the trauma.
