As a sign of respect to the late King Bhumibol Aduyadej, the government has asked for a one-month suspension of entertainment activities.
This means that many events, such as concerts, have either been canceled entirely, or postponed to a later date.
Some venues that aren’t temporarily closed have chosen to cancel any special events they had planned, but will be open for business as usual.
Khaosod English, Bangkok Post, and The Nation have written a list of things that people living in the city can and cannot do during this time, as well as a list of events that won’t proceed as scheduled.
Some movie theaters, including SF Cinema and House RCA will be closed on Friday, but will be open on Saturday as usual. Major Cineplex and Lido and Scala will be open as usual, but have reduced screening sessions.
The Morrissey concert scheduled for Moonstar Studio next Tuesday has been canceled. Tickets will be refunded at places of purchase.
Other concerts that have been postponed include: Modern Dog band at Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, and ETC Journey Concert in Bangkok on Saturday; the Thailand Music League concert at Muang Thong Thani on October 22nd, Big Bang Made (VIP) Tour at Muang Thong Thani on October 29th; JYP Nation in Bangkok concert at Muang THong Thani on November 5-6th; and Grand Ex’ Grand Concert in Hua Hin on November 26th.
The King’s Cup FB Battery River Kwai Half Marathon this Sunday has been postponed as well until further notice.
For tourists and the party crowd, Soi Cowboy has announced that they will be closed indefinitely.
Samarn Futrakul, of the Alcohol Control Board, has announced that alcohol will be sold as usual during the normal hours of 11am-2pm, and from 5pm-midnight. However, sales will be banned on Sunday for the last day of Buddhist Lent, or Wan Ok Phansa, on Oct. 16.
Thanakorn Kuptajit of the Thai Alcohol Beverage Business Association has said that bars are allowed to operate as usual, but must close at 1am. Parties will not be tolerated.
If you wish to go clubbing, it would better to call ahead to check if the venue is open or not. This applies to everything, including restaurants and bars as well.
Places that will be closed are Beam and Demo in Thonglor, Levels and Sugar in Nana, and Silom’s Whiteline.
TV channels will resume broadcasting their programs at midnight tonight, but entertainment programs will not be allowed.
The Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan that was scheduled for October 17th has been canceled.
The Kolour Warehouse Party has also been canceled. So has the Color Run event that was supposed to be this weekend at Airport Rail Link Makkasan.
Theater performances, such as “Lordlai Mangkorn The Musical” at Rachadalai Theater, and Siam Pic-Ganesha Theater’s “Firefly Tales the Musical” have been canceled, and tickets will be refunded. “The Butterfly Lovers” will also be canceled.
The last four shows that were a part of the Bangkok’s International Festival of Dance and Music, which includes Turkey’s Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Spain’s VOCES, Suite Flamenca by Sara Baras Dance Company, and two modern dances by American’s Paul Taylor have all been canceled.
For anyone planning to go anywhere during this time, calling ahead is recommended.
