Junta leader Prayuth Chan-ocha today announced the replacement governor for Sukhumbhand Paribatra, who was suspended in August as he was being investigated for overspending and misappropriation of emergency funds.
Using the power granted to him by Article 44, he announced that he was giving the job to Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, 65. The appointment is effective immediately.
The new governor of Bangkok is a retired cop probably best known for his recent initiative to remove street vendors from city-owned land such as the streets of Pratunam, Silom and Siam Square.
Apparently, he is also behind the closing and destruction of Old Town’s much-loved Pak Khlong Talad flower market and the recent removal of the people living in the ancient Mahakan Fort neighborhood in advance of the destruction of their homes, reported Khaosod English.
