Man, 25, high on yaba arrested for lese majeste

A 25-year-old man was arrested at his home in Mai Khao, Phuket, Sunday morning after he was alleged to have posted a message on Facebook deemed to be disrespectful to the Royal Family. Police said the man was high on yaba when arrested.

Tha Chatchai Police, led by Lt. Col Prawit Sutthiroungarun, arrested Manorusadeen Samuthban, 25, at his house in Moo 2 Mai Khao after coordinating with the Mai Khao Moo 2 village headman.

Lt. Col. Prawit said,“We coordinated with the Mai Khao Moo 2 village headman after we were notified of a possible lese majeste message on Facebook. We arrived at the suspect’s home and found him high on meth.

“Santi Samuthban, 50, the father of Manorusadeen, supported us in the arrest of his son,” he said.

He added, “Santi and officers called Manorusadeen to open his door but he would not open it. According to Santi, he had a knife in his hand.

Santi decided to open the room with his key to find Manorusadeen in the corner of the room talking to himself.

“We also found one yaba pill in his room,” he added

Manorusadeen currently faces being charged with possession of Category 1 drug, however, police will investigate further the lese majeste allegation.
