Thais and Americans in U.S. mourn the late king’s death

Thai nationals and US citizens are continuing to visit Thai Embassy in Washington on Wisconsin Avenue and the consular building on Calorama Road, to sign messages of condolence for the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

In addition to messages of condolence from government leaders and ministers of the United States, important figures and senior officials are visiting the Thai Embassy to write their messages of condolence, for the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol.

Notable figures include William Cohen, the former Minister of Defense, Daniel Russell, the Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Asian and Pacific Affairs) and ambassadors from several countries who are residing in Washington, along with a large number of Americans and Thai nationals who had immediately contacted the Thai Embassy once they heard of the King’s passing. Many of the mourners spent hours traveling to the Thai Embassy in Washington.

The Thai Ambassador in Washington, Phisarn Manawaphat, and embassy officials have also been hosting merit-making ceremonies in tribute to the late King Bhumibol at Thai temples in Washington, reported Thai News Bureau.

The Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York and the three Consulate Generals of Thailand in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles are also allowing the public to sign messages of condolence for the King’s passing.

The Thai Embassy in Washington will be opening the embassy to mourners to pay their respects and write messages of condolence until the end of October.
