Though not yet finalized, The cabinet has gone through part of the approval process for adjustments to The Alien Working Act BE 2551.
Once the working draft is approved, work permit fees (except for application fee) for foreigners that have resided in the kingdom for a long time, or have special leniency, will be waived.
These considerations would also be extended to children born in the kingdom but not Thai nationals and foreigners going through the Thai nationality citizenship process.
The draft also clarifies the sort of work these three groups of foreigners can do. It states that they may perform any job that suits their skill set as well as specifying that
Nationals of Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar may work as language coordinators.
Once the new draft is approved, long-stay foreigner will be able to hold jobs previously restricted to Thai nationals as long as the job has been advertised for 15 days and priority given to Thai applicants.
After 15 days, if a suitable Thai national has not been found, a foreigner can be hired. But only one for every 100 Thai employees at the company, reported The Nation
Certain types of organizations, such as public or state enterprises, foundations, or NGOs can place foreigners in jobs as necessary.
The partially-approved draft has been sent to the Council of State for their approval.
