Longest painting in world in Chiang Rai to honor world’s longest-serving monarch

A group of artists that numbered almost 200 created what is being said to be the world’s longest painting.

The art piece and tribute, in Chiang Rai, was directed by national artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. The painting tells the story of the life of the late King Bhumibol. It takes viewers through his childhood in Switzerland through his time in Thailand, wedding, monkhood, throne accession and his lifetime of good works for his people.

Because of its location, the artwork also shows places around Chiang Rai where the late King spent time as well as famous tourist sites in the province to the north, reported Thai PBS.

The completed black-and-white painting measures 2.5 meters tall and 17 meters long.

The 200 artist put paintbrush to canvas on Monday at 10am and finished at 7pm. The painting is on view on the lawn of an art gallery in Chiang Rai.
