Phuket woman, 54, walking 842 kilometers to Bangkok for late King

A 54-year-old woman from Kathu yesterday set off on a 842-kilometer walk to Bangkok in honor of the late King Bhumibol, who passed away on Oct. 13. She is the second person from Phuket to set-off on the journey.

Members of the Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation reported at 6am yesterday that a Phuket woman is walking to Bangkok to pay condolences to the late king.

The woman, Malee Dongmai, 54, was spotted crossing Sarasin Bridge early yesterday morning. She said, “This is the first time doing such a long walk and what I am doing is my way of showing love and loyalty to the late King. I started my walk from Saphan Hin and every 50 kilometers I will take a rest and maybe some sleep. I am grateful that I am doing something for the late King.”

“All along the road, residents came out to greet me and offered me food and drink. People gave me courage and moral support on this mission,” she said.

On Tuesday, Duang Indang, 37, from Cherng Talay also set off to Bangkok by foot to pay condolences to the late King.

He also said that he what he was doing was his way of showing love and loyalty to the late King.
