Disabled man to travel from Phuket to Bangkok on wheelchair to honor HM King Bhumibol

A disabled man set off on Friday from Phuket on a journey all the way to Bangkok to honor the late King Bhumibol. The man will make the full 842-kilometer journey pushing himself along with one leg on a makeshift wheelchair.

Jantima Kraithong posted a photo of the man on public group on Facebook along with the message: “This man is heading to Bangkok to pay respect to the late king. If anyone sees him on the road, please assist with food and water.”

The man, only identified as “Sompong,” is said to work as a TV repairman on the tourist island, and he was spotted by local residents on Friday morning as he pushed himself along Thepkrasettri road.

It was reported that Sompong was also seen joining the “Bike for Dad” event last year to mark the late king’s 88th birthday.
