Mother Day’s Phuket bomb suspect confesses: police

The Royal Thai Police confirmed yesterday that the suspect arrested in connection with the Aug.12 bomb blasts in Phuket has confessed to planting the bombs.

Deputy Chief of the Royal Thai Police Lt. Gen. Sriwara Rangsipromkul yesterday flew from Bangkok to Nakhon Sri Thammarat where Muhammad Muhi, 20, was being detained in order to question him about the two blasts in the island’s main entertainment hub on the morning of Mother’s Day.

Lt. Gen. Sriwara said, “One of the suspects, Muhammad Muhi, 20, confessed that he was the person who planted the two bombs in Patong.”

“During the course of questioning he told us about bombs and then started to cry. He later told us that he received the bombs from a group leader from the three Southern border provinces and that he carried the bombs to Phuket from the deep south by bus,” he said.

Lt. Gen. Sriwara confirmed that all details will be passed on to court officials.
