Uneasy Pass: Security guard beaten after refusing motorist at ‘Easy Pass’ tollbooth

A security guard at Bangkok’s Sirat expressway was knocked out by a passenger in a pickup truck this morning because the guard refused to let his truck go through an Easy Pass toll booth lane since he didn’t have a card.

Aniruth Sangmit, 52, filed a police complaint at Prachachuen Police Station after he was beaten and had to be hospitalized at around 8am today.

Aniruth said the five men in an Isuzu pickup truck tried to pay cash at a tollbooth that only accepted a payment from the Easy Pass card, but when the guard told them to go to another booth, he was attacked by one of the men.

“The man who sat in the passenger’s seat got out of the car, verbally assaulted me and punched me several times until I collasped,” Aniruth said.

He suffered from an eye injury, Bangkok Biz News reported.

Police have reached out to the owner of the Isuzu truck in question, but the owner claimed that they had lent the car to someone else.

The investigation is ongoing.
