Full Moon Party resumes featuring tribute to the late king

Koh Phangan’s Haad Rin beach was lit up again for the Full Moon Party on Monday. But this time the event began by candlelight as 10,000 people gathered with candles to honor the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The crowd included locals, officials and backpackers and this edition of the party had the theme of “Koh Phangan is the moon. The most beautiful in the world. For our King.”

After the candle-lighting, the crowd formed the Thai number 9 and sang the royal anthem in remembrance of the late king.

Koh Phangan, the island famous for the monthly Full Moon Party canceled the event last month after the death of the late king on Oct. 13, reported Thai PBS.

The party was back on last night, albeit with more people wearing black, quieter music than usual and a more subdued vibe.

Foreign tourists were advised in advance about the toned-down party and many of them chose to join the candle lighting for the late king as well.
