Buriram provincial authorities are planning to promote ancient castle Prasart Bai Baek, which is believed to come into existence in the 16th century, as a new tourist attraction.
Chan Thop Phet sub-district Mayor Santi Utoomporn and other local government officials inspected Prasart Bai Baek, which is located on the Thai-Cambodian border in Chan Thop Phet sub-district, to assess how much restoration is needed, reported Thai News Bureau.
The Department of Fine Arts will be asked to restore this ancient castle and improve the landscape surrounding it as it is poised to become a new tourist site.
The construction of Prasart Bai Bake was influenced by ancient Khom architecture and it consists of three different structures. Each one was made of sandstone carved into beautiful patterns.
Even though some parts of the castle already collapsed as people came here digging for ancient treasures, it still remains beautiful even to this day.
Chan Thop Phet sub-district Mayor Santi believed Prasart Bai Baek once served as a home of a king as did Prasat Hin Phanom Rung from the 16th and 17th centuries. He added it will become a site where people can learn more about regional history.
